Frequently asked questions

Are you unsure whether the Goodnature A24 is the right choice, or have you already purchased the trap and are wondering if you’re using it to its full potential? That’s understandable. This trap works slightly differently from traditional mouse or rat traps, and it’s exactly that difference that can lead to questions or uncertainty.

On this page, we answer the most common questions and clearly explain what you can expect. This way, you can get the most out of your A24.

Why does it sometimes take longer to see results?

Mice and rats are naturally wary of new objects and potential danger in their environment. This means it can sometimes take a while before they trust and use the trap.

In addition, other factors may come into play if the trap fails to catch anything for a prolonged period. For example, the trap may not be positioned in the right location, or there may be sufficient familiar food available nearby, meaning pests have no reason to approach the trap. In some cases, it may help to move the trap.

Where is the best place to put the trap?

The right location is one of the most important factors in the successful use of an A24 trap. It is not necessarily the case that the place where you see rats or signs of rats is also the most effective location to place the trap.

The first step is to pre-feed. As soon as you notice that the rats have eaten the food, you know the trap is in the right place. The rats will most likely return to this location.

You might want to try a different food. This is particularly worth a try if you know what the rats like to eat.

Alternative food sources, such as compost or chicken feed nearby, compete with your trap. By eliminating these alternatives, the rat will become hungry and will have to look for a new place. In that search, the trap will become an attractive option, increasing the chance of a catch.

What is the difference between Goodnature and cheaper alternatives?

The difference lies not only in the price, but above all in technology, safety, durability and reliability in the long term. Cheaper alternatives are often less durable and less safe. The Goodnature A24 is designed so that you do not have to keep emptying or resetting it manually. Many cheaper traps are less reliable in their operation. Goodnature has carried out extensive testing to ensure that the strike pin in the traps fires every time. All Goodnature traps are also made in New Zealand from high-quality, water-resistant materials.

How long will it take to solve my rat problem?

That varies depending on the situation. The trap is intended as a long-term solution, not as an immediate ‘overnight fix’. Patience and good preparation often make the difference between disappointment and a trap that remains effective over the long term.

Why hasn’t my trap caught anything yet?

The number of catches depends on the size of the infestation, the location of the trap and the preparation. No catch does not mean the trap isn’t working. It may mean there is little activity or that the trap’s location needs adjusting. A traditional snap trap shows immediate, visible results after every catch. This gives the impression that the trap is effective, as you see the caught animal lying there each time.

The A24 works differently. This trap resets itself after every catch and is designed for continuous use. The strength of the A24 lies precisely in its automatic operation, even when you do not always find evidence beneath the trap.

What makes this trap different from other traps?

Whereas alternative traps need to be checked, emptied and reset regularly, the A24 operates automatically and continuously. No daily rounds, no reset after every catch. This convenience makes a big difference, particularly with larger or long-term mouse or rat problems. The trap is designed to kill quickly and effectively, thereby preventing unnecessary suffering.

The A24 has a higher purchase price. That is no secret, nor is it a coincidence. This trap is designed as a long-term investment. Instead of constantly buying new disposable traps or hiring professional pest control, this solution offers a reusable system that can be more cost-effective in the long run.

How often do I need to replace the CO₂ cartridge?

One cartridge is good for multiple catches, up to 24 automatic resets. We recommend replacing the cartridge every 6 months in any case.

How do I know if I need to replace the CO₂ cartridge?

You can easily test whether the CO₂ cartridge is still working by manually activating the trap according to the instructions. To test the trap, insert a pen or twig through the top of the trap and gently push the trigger to the side. The firing pin will go off with a bang. Always keep your hands away from the trap’s openings and always treat the trap as if it is active. If the trap no longer fires, this means the cartridge is empty and needs replacing.

Is the trap safe for children and pets?

Yes, the Goodnature A24 is designed with safety as a priority and, when installed correctly, is safe for children and pets. The trap must be deliberately triggered; this cannot happen accidentally.

The protective cover has a narrow opening, and the trap is mounted approximately 12 cm above the ground, making it almost impossible for anything larger than a mouse or rat to reach the trigger pin.

The same applies to children. The opening of the trap is narrow and the mechanism is located deep within the device. It would take a great deal of effort to reach it with a hand. We recommend taking the time to explain what the trap is, where it is placed, and that it is not a toy.

Although the trap is designed with safety in mind, it remains important to always install it in accordance with the installation instructions and to keep it out of reach of young children.

Is one trap enough?

That depends on the size of the area. For larger sites, it may be necessary to install several traps to ensure effective coverage.

How long does an A24 trap last?

The Goodnature A24 is a lifetime investment. The trap’s housing is durable, weatherproof and robust, meaning the trap can last for years without needing replacement. You only need to replace the CO₂ cartridge once they are empty or have run out. Ultimately, the device pays for itself through savings on disposable traps, labour, time and damage caused by rodents.
