FETF 2026 Equipment: Gallagher Weighing and EID Systems
Received your Grant Funding Agreement? You now have a fixed window to buy, take delivery of and pay for your equipment before the claim deadline. Gallagher weighing and EID products are matched below to the FETF 2026 item codes they meet, so you can go straight from the code on your agreement to the right kit — without guessing whether it will pass at claim stage.
The Rural Payments Agency began issuing FETF 2026 Grant Funding Agreements in June 2026. All claims must be submitted by midday on 20 January 2027, and you can only claim once every item in that agreement has been paid for and received. Because delivery and payment both have to be complete before you claim, we recommend placing your order by the end of October 2026 to leave comfortable margin.

Match your FETF item code to Gallagher equipment
Every FETF item code carries its own written specification. Your claim is assessed against that specification, not against the product name — so the safest route is to work code-first. Below are the codes most commonly used for livestock weighing and electronic identification, with the Gallagher products that meet them.
Grant amounts shown are Defra's published 2026 figures. Always check the exact codes and quantities on your own agreement before ordering.
FETF78 — Individual electronic weigh system
Grant: £623 · Average cost: £1,246
An electronic weigh head or indicator, capable of connecting to an EID reader and to automatic drafting systems. Weigh bars are not included in this code — see FETF79 or FETF80 for those.
- Weigh Scale W1
- TW-1 Weigh Scale
- TW-3 Weigh Scale with Data Collector — full data recording
- TWR-1 Weigh Scale with Data Collector — integrated EID reading
- TWR-5 Weigh Scale and Data Collector with integrated EID Reader — top of the range

FETF79 — Weigh bars and weigh platforms for livestock
Grant: £456 · Average cost: £913
Two electronic load bars or an electronic weigh platform, working with a digital weigh head, for livestock over 300kg. Must be capable of weighing to 2000kg to allow for the weight of the handling equipment itself. Non-electronic systems are not eligible.

FETF80 — Weigh bars and platforms for livestock under 300kg
Grant: £550 · Average cost: £1,100
For sheep, pigs, calves and lambs. Note the restriction: you cannot claim under FETF80SH if any part of that item is also included in a claim for FETF72 (automatic weighing and drafting crate for sheep).

- Loadbar Set 2500kg – 600mm
- Wireless Loadbar Set 2500kg – 600mm

FETF81 — EID handheld recorder device
Grant: £492 · Average cost: £984
A handheld RFID device for reading and recording individual animals, able to record breeding, births, weights, treatments and movements, with app or cloud access and data export to a software package. You must supply the serial number when you claim, and if the item uses an app or cloud system you will need to provide evidence that it works.

FETF74 — EID panel reader for sheep
Must be a static or race panel reader with antenna and Bluetooth, able to read both HDX and FDX-B tags, and permanently fixed to a sheep handling system. Portable readers do not qualify under this code.
Codes supplied as part of a complete system
Some FETF codes must be bought as a single working unit rather than as separate components — FETF72 (automatic weighing and drafting crate for sheep, grant £7,996), FETF75 (electronic weigh crate for sheep, grant £1,270) and FETF77PI (electronic pig weighing and sorting facility, grant £1,564) all work this way.
You cannot buy the elements individually and claim under these codes. What you can do is ask your crate or handling system manufacturer to specify Gallagher weighing and EID components within the package. Gallagher weigh scales, loadbars, antenna panels and the Controller R are all designed to integrate into third-party handling systems.
If you are buying a handling system or crate under another code, we recommend also applying for FETF78, FETF79, FETF80 or FETF81 so that you get full use of the equipment.
Making sure your claim goes through
Claims are assessed against Defra's written specification for each item code, and a mismatch is the most common reason for rejection. Three things to get right:
Order early enough. Payment and delivery must both be complete before you can claim. Aim to order by the end of October 2026.
Keep your serial numbers. Several codes require the item's serial number on the claim form. Keep your invoice and packaging documentation together.
Be ready to evidence software functionality. Where an item relies on an app or cloud platform, you will need to show it works. Gallagher Animal Performance provides exportable records that meet this requirement.
If you cannot source an item on your agreement, contact the RPA before the claim deadline — you need written approval to change or remove it, and you will need to show which suppliers you tried.
Why weigh?
Weighing turns guesswork into decisions. Accurate individual weights let you dose to actual bodyweight rather than by eye, which cuts medicine waste and makes sure each animal gets the right treatment. Over a season, that shows up in growth rates, in finishing times and in what you spend on wormer and antibiotics.

Worth planning ahead for: Defra has confirmed that electronic identification will become mandatory for newborn calves in England from 2027. Equipment bought under FETF now will still be earning its keep well after the scheme closes.
Frequently asked questions
Is Gallagher equipment eligible for FETF 2026? Yes. Gallagher weighing and EID products meet the specifications for several FETF 2026 item codes across cattle, sheep and pig enterprises, including FETF68, FETF74, FETF78, FETF79, FETF80 and FETF81. Eligibility always depends on the exact code and quantity on your own agreement.
When is the FETF 2026 claim deadline? Midday on 20 January 2027. You must have paid for and received every item in an agreement before submitting that claim, and a separate claim is needed for each agreement.
Can I still apply for FETF 2026? No. Applications opened on 17 March 2026 and closed at midday on 12 May 2026. This was confirmed as the final standalone round of FETF in its current form, with a reformed scheme structure expected from 2027.
How much does FETF pay towards equipment? Grants are paid at a set contribution based on Defra's calculated average cost for each item, typically 40–50%. The grant does not increase if you pay more than the listed average, and is capped at your actual cost if you pay less.
Does FETF cover farms outside England? No. FETF is an England-only scheme delivered by the Rural Payments Agency. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland run separate schemes.
Where can I buy Gallagher FETF equipment? Through your local Gallagher stockist, who can provide a quotation showing the relevant item codes. Find a dealer or contact us.
