Smart, animal-friendly and highly effective
When Tom and Carly moved into their first home, they hadn’t expected any visitors. But their dog Kaiser soon spotted a rat running across the driveway, and so began their pest hunt.
With six Goodnature traps and over 180 rats caught to their name, they have become advocates of a non-invasive, animal-friendly approach to pest control. Their trap network extends across their home, their guest house, the loft and the vegetable garden.
“At first we used conventional rat traps in wooden tunnels,” says Tom, “and they did work, but when we got our first Goodnature trap at the guest house, the self-resetting design made it an easy choice for pest control.”
It worked. “We had them under control within a week.”
The figures speak for themselves: 184 recorded catches, most of them during the colder months, when rats are seeking warmth and food.
It’s all about the location, and a bit of bait!
The key to their success? Placement and pre-baiting. One trap, permanently positioned by the garage, consistently records the most catches. Another is in their own garden. The third is under a canopy. The fourth is their “roamer”, an A24 on a trap stand that they move between the vegetable patch, the loft of the house and wherever it’s needed.
“I like to pre-bait around the trap when I set it up or change the bait,” says Tom. “Create a trail on both sides of the trap. That way, we’ve caught several rats in a single night.”
