Earthing a fence energiser is essential in order for it to deliver an effective shock.

Good earthing consists of earth rods and clamps. The length and number of the earth rods required depends on the fence energiser you are using:

portable energisers: minimum length 0.5 metre

12V energisers: minimum length 1 metre

Mains energisers: minimum length 1,7 metres

Gallagher earth rods are galvanised for long life and excellent conductivity.

Ground cable is used to connect the energiser to the fence and the earth rods. The cable is also used to make underground fence connections, for instance, under gates or openings. This 2.5mm ground cable should be used for distances of more than 30 metres*. The handy metre marks on the cable, makes set up easy as the measuring is done for you. *For distances less than 30 metres then 1.6mm ground cable is recommended.

Bentonite earthing mix

Bentonite earthing mix is a recommended earthing option. Earthing a fence energiser is essential in order for it to work correctly and deliver an effective shock. The Bentonite mix is quick and easy to use, is particularly effective in poor earthing soils (dry or sandy soil) and for earthing larger fence energisers. The earthing mix includes an earth clamp and a salt and absorbent clay mixture, which retains moisture. Earthing rods are also required (but not included).
