Strip grazing with Gallagher tumble wheels: The smart solution for quickly relocatable fencing
Looking for an easier way to easily move wires and give cows a new patch of grass? Gallagher's tumble wheels are ideal for this. With tumble wheels, one person can move a wire in minutes.
What are Gallagher tumble wheels?
Gallagher is known for its innovative products, and the tumble wheel is a perfect example. But what exactly is a tumble wheel? A tumble wheel is a type of mobile fence post that makes moving an electric fence easier. Instead of winding up wires and repositioning posts, tumble wheels simply roll with them when the reel is moved. In the process, the wire remains energised, allowing you to work quickly and efficiently and preventing your animals from breaking out.

Moving quickly and easily with power on the wire
Using tumble wheels, one person can move a wire in just a few minutes, without having to interrupt the power. This saves time and effort, and ensures that the fence always remains operational, even while being moved.
No power loss through the legs on the ground
A unique feature of the Gallagher tumble wheel is that it is designed to always retain power on the legs that are not on the ground. Of the six legs a tumble wheel has, only two are free of current. These are the legs that touch the ground. The other four legs remain live, so animals cannot move or damage the tumble wheels. The metal plate in the centre of the tumble wheel moves with it as the tumble wheel rolls, ensuring that there is no loss of power through the legs on the ground.

Perfect for cows: Fence at the right height
Gallagher tumble wheels are specifically designed for grazing cows. The maximum fence height is 0.78 metres. They are suitable for use in pasture systems where strip grazing or ration grazing is central.
Suitable for challenging conditions
Tumble wheels also work well on hard or frozen ground, and are effective on rocky plots or with lots of stones. This makes them ideal for farmers working in varying weather conditions or difficult terrain. They can be used on flat plots as well as in hilly areas.

Use and installation: Simple and flexible
Assembling tumble wheels is simple. For wire installation, the following applies: Place a tumble wheel every 20 metres, with a maximum of 10 per fence. This means that with 10 tumble wheels, you can create a fence of up to 200 metres. This system offers a flexible solution for any livestock farmer.
Distribution of the pasture during strip grazing with tumble wheels
Strip grazing with tumble wheels ensures maximum utilisation of the pasture grass. Many people who want to start strip grazing wonder how they can divide their pasture most efficiently. They also often ask how many animals can graze on one strip, how large this strip should be and how often it should be moved each day
The answers to these questions vary depending on the situation and factors such as the pasture, the location of the water supply, the grass growth during the period in question and the objectives of the livestock farmer. For tailored advice, please contact a specialist roughage advisor.
The animations below give an impression of the most common ways of dividing a pasture with tumble wheels. For the best results, Gallagher recommends using both a front and rear wire for strip grazing.
1. Strip grazing with tumble wheels from a single point at the edge of the pasture
2. Strip grazing with tumble wheels from a single point in the middle of the pasture
3. Strip grazing with tumble wheels from multiple points at the edge of the pasture
