Keeping out foxes

The fox is an omnivore and loves chickens, ducks and other poultry. The hunting fox climbs over and digs under fences. To keep foxes out, we recommend electric fencing, in combination with a Foxlight for optimum deterrence. The Foxlight keeps the foxes at bay. If foxes do get close, they are put off by the electric fence.

Many people opt for a traditional fence with mesh or wood, and think they can keep the fox out like this. But that is usually not the case. The fox is cunning, and if it is hungry, it will do everything it can to get to its tasty snack, including climbing and digging. If you really want an efficient fence to keep the fox out, there is only 1 solution: an electric fence. After the first contact with this fence, the fox will avoid it. A fox doesn’t hit the same grid twice. You have created a psychological barrier between your animals and the fox.

Different types of fox fences

High tensile fences for foxes

A high tensile system is ideal for keeping foxes away. This permanent fence offers the maximum security against very difficult and resistant species. That is why Gallagher recommends a special solution by installing a double fence, for optimum security. This solution consists of an inner and outer fence.

Inner Fence Against Foxes

The inner fence is a 5-wire Insultimber system consisting of fixed and floating posts, such as a sheep grid system. This system has been unsurpassed for over 40 years and can easily last 20 to 25 years. The bottom wire is low to the ground and it is therefore important to connect a powerful electric fence energiser to the fence. The growing grass has to be seared away so that the current conduction remains optimal.

Outer fence against foxes

The outer fence is a simple high-tensile application consisting of a short post of 1 m that is ± 50 cm deep in the ground. The wires are mounted on 20 cm and 45 cm. Mobile fencing against foxes

Do you want a temporary or mobile fence to keep out foxes? Then Gallagher recommends a special solution by placing 2 fences for optimum security, consisting of an inner and outer fence. This proven system helps to protect your property and livestock even better.

Mobile Inner Fence Against Foxes

The first fence is the SmartFence, the all-in-1 system with posts, reels and wires. The system is 100 metres long and also suitable for uneven terrain. This system functions as an inner fence to keep the fox away.

Mobile Outer fence against foxes

For your outdoor fence, you can install a simple system consisting of short fence posts of 75 cm with 2 Vidoflex 9 wires. You place the first thread at a height of approximately 20 cm. By adding the Foxlight to your fence, the fox has even more to be scared off at night, thanks to the random light rays. The Foxlight consists of 9 LED lights that flash randomly. Semi-Permanent High tensile fence against foxes

With the Line Post 95 cm high tensile fence, you have a unique system that is at least as strong as a permanent wooden fence, but which can be moved easily if necessary. To ensure that your animals are not troubled by the fox, we recommend a double fence. Optimal security thanks to an inner and outer fence!

Inner Fence Against Foxes

The inner fence is a 5-wire system consisting of fixed Line Post posts. The distance between the posts is 7 m. The height of the wires are 9.5 cm, 30 cm, 45.5 cm, 71 cm and 95 cm. The lower wire is low to the ground. This means that the grass can easily grow against it. A powerful device is therefore needed to ensure that the grass is scorched away and that the current conduction remains optimal.

Outer fence against foxes

The outer fence is built with our blue plastic pole of 0.7 m with two High Tensile wires. The distance of the inner grid is 35 cm. The wires are mounted on 10 cm and 50 cm. Thanks to this outer fence, the fox has an extra barrier before it can reach its target.
